Interior Painting Process

The Cleanline Interior Painting Process

For most interior projects, you can expect the following:

1. Consultation and estimate – The first step is a free consultation. I meet with you and evaluate the project, and we discuss the best procedures and products to use for your particular situation. A detailed written estimate, containing all that we discuss, will then be e-mailed or delivered to you.

2. Scheduling -After the acceptance of the proposal, I will schedule a start date that is most convenient for you. Project timelines on interiors are more difficult to outline due to efforts to minimize disruption to your daily life, but most large single family projects are completed within two weeks of the start of work.

3. Color samples - I can provide you with numerous color samples from which to choose. If you have a color in mind I can have it custom matched if necessary. I always recommend trying an actual paint sample on the wall before making a final decision. I am always happy to work with a designer if you like.

4. Preparation - Complete interior wall and ceiling preparation includes: drywall/plaster repair and texturing; removing unneeded hardware, hooks, and nails; filling all holes; caulking cracks and gaps between trim moldings and walls, and elsewhere as needed; repairing smoke or water damage; dusting and washing all needed areas; and priming all water stains, crayon marks, and all other areas where needed with a premium-quality stain blocking primer.

5. Set-up - All furniture and decorations are moved as needed. Draperies, blinds, switch plates, hardware, and fixtures are removed as needed.

6. Masking & Covering - All unprotected areas such as floors, furniture, windows, etc. are carefully masked or covered with plastic sheeting. If there is any spraying to be done, the entire spray area will be thoroughly masked and then sealed with plastic sheeting. You will find no paint out of place at the end of the project.

7. Finish Painting – Depending on the project, one or two coats of the chosen paint are applied. Paint will be applied by brush and roller or airless sprayer depending on the project type. Most occupied homes are painted using brush and roller to minimize disruption to your daily life. Acoustic (popcorn) ceilings are always sprayed. Edges between contrasting colors come out straight and razor sharp.

8. Clean-up - I clean-up at the end of each day and at the end of the entire project. In occupied homes I always try to paint rooms or sections of the home that can be completed in a workday so I can remove all masking, replace all furniture, and clean-up those areas before I leave for the evening. I try to make the painting process as enjoyable as possible for you.
